From "the unsightly premises act"

3(2)No person shall permit a building or structure owned or occupied by him to become a hazard to the safety of the public by reason of dilapidation or unsoundness of structural strength.

When CP sold off its lands, many of them were purchased by JD Irving.  The train station in Fredericton  is one of them.  In McAdam, and places in ontario, the railway stations were purchased by municipalities.
The train station in Dundas, Ontario was purchased by the conservation authority and turned into a trail centre with a store, meeting area, picnic area and environmental exhibits.

The train station in Waterloo was purchased by the city and is rented out to a high end mens clothing retailer.  The company wanted to purchase the building but the city refused to sell.

The McAdam Train station is still in desperate need of funds to repair.

Irving has said that they tried to sell the station for $1-so why doesn't the city buy it?
